Collage has some exciting new books to go along with our theme this term. They are helping drive home the vocabulary, Rocket! Alien! Moon! The children are enjoying the colorful, imaginative and silliness the books have to offer. Each class is reading a different book that has a corresponding craft or game.

The Dynamic English class has been reading, “Here Come The Aliens!” Each page has 4 rhyming lines that end with the chorus, “the aliens are coming.” The illustrations in this book are very unique and detailed.

There are spaceships that look like pigs, aliens (of course) with 3 eyes, 2 heads, 4 arms and gaseous steam pipes. There are even planets that look like bananas, soccer balls and eyeballs. The story builds until the aliens see a photo of a children’s class. They are frightened, and the repeating chorus switches to “the aliens have gone!” The story teaches us an important lesson that however different people may look, or act, or speak, their fears are the same as ours. Under the skin we’re all much the same.

The Little Faces class loves story time! In this class, we are reading “Papa, Please Get The Moon For Me.” The blue color theme of the book matches the calming tale of a father’s love for his daughter. She wants to play with the moon, but he has to wait until it’s small enough. The story also reminds the children that the moon undergoes cycles. It gets bigger and then it gets smaller again. The book shows us that there is something important about being able to imagine even those things we know to be impossible.

The Little Actors thoroughly enjoy the silliness of “Aliens Love Underpants!” Of course there are no underpants in space, so the aliens have to come to Earth to steal them from the humans. They put them on their heads or try to fit as many aliens in one pair of long johns. The children in this class are letting their imaginations run wild with this fun and exciting book!
